Syreen Goulmamine, MPH, is a type 1 diabetes patient and patient advocate. Diagnosed at the age of seven, her lived experience in managing her autoimmune condition has driven her fierce commitment to patient advocacy and interdisciplinary research.  

A seasoned scientist and public health expert, Syreen currently works as a Science Programs Manager at the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR), where she leads roundtables and public forums to address critical research gaps in women’s health, focusing on areas such as menopause, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular disparities. She leverages her epidemiology and immunology expertise to conduct research, develop evidence-based deliverables, and evaluate program outcomes. Additionally, as Chief Executive Officer of EquityBio Consulting, she collaborates with public and private sector clients to advance health equity, utilizing program management, research, and evaluation to drive innovation within established organizational structures. 

Prior to these roles, Syreen worked as a bench scientist and clinical trials report writer in the biopharmaceutical industry. During this time, she began consulting for Fortune 500 companies and biotech startups. She brings extensive public service experience, having served as a community health educator and senior epidemiologist within district and state health departments. She is also a Public Health AmeriCorps alum. 

Currently, she serves on the Virginia Diabetes Council Board of Directors, AcademyHealth’s Health Equity Interest Group Advisory Committee, George Mason University’s College of Public Health Alumni Board, Randolph-Macon College’s Young Alumni Board and Physician Assistant Advisory Committee, and sits on the Rare Disease Diversity Coalition’s Patient, Provider, Caregiver Journey Working Group and the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs’ Global Maternal Health Workgroup. 

Syreen holds a Master of Public Health from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science from Randolph-Macon College. Her academic excellence has earned her membership in the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and the Delta Omega National Honor Society.
